  • In the logistics arena, cutting edge machinery and systems, such as autonomous driving and robots, are reducing the required manpower and progressing standardization. This is transitioning logistics from a labour-intensive industry to an equipment industry. This presentation will give an overview of trends emerging from this transition, and highlight with leading examples how embracing digital is transforming the logistics business.

「How to cope with the logistics "2024 problem"」

  • Japan’s logistics industry is facing the prospect of not being able to deliver how it was once did. Working with the relevant government agencies, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has discussed how best to solve serious problems in logistics in investigative meetings as such “realising sustainable logistics” and “realising the physical internet”. Last year in June at the “Cabinet meeting for the innovation of logistics in Japan” the “Political measures package for logistics innovation” was decided. This presentation will explain the logistics policies being implemented by METI alongside relevant agencies.
